Julian Beever
Beever's pavement drawings never fail to cause every passerby to have a second take. He has undoubtedly mastered the art of 3 dimensional chalk drawings, had anyone ever thought to think, but was there ever any competition? His fascinating chalk obsession gives depth to 2D pavements. Chalk drawing has never been taken so seriously. Perhaps the proper way to term his artistic expression is that it fits in a very difficult to emulate "trompe l'oeil" genre of art. I wonder if he has special waterproof chalk?
Perhaps if his designs inhabited the streets of our cities, tranforming our world into 4 dimensional deceptions. Let our Audi's and our Honda's carelessly drive over illusionary holes and babies and waterfalls. His artwork reminds me of back in my "chalk" days when we chalked in a full fledged animal Zoo in my backyard growing up.
